Soul Buggin' vs. DiY NYE Soundclash!

So then. 2013. Almost done. What a year it's been eh. We'll perhaps do a proper review once we've got the party season out the way and let the dust settle but before all that you need to know about this.

This New Years Eve we've decided to return to the upstairs loft-style room of The Old Angel down Stoney Street in Nottingham. We had a belter last year so we thought lets do it again and this time we've invited DiY party stalwarts Woosh and Osbourne to join us on the decks.

If you're after a little intimate party in dark room that'll be high on the music quality front but low on the wallet then get your shuffle on down to this soiree.

We'll be running from 10pm till 4am. Entry will be £5 on the door. No tickets. First come first served

Let's see in the New Year right (or wrong as the case will probably be)

Mr DJ History

Hot on the heels of Horse Meat Disco we welcome back to Soul Buggin' another previous guest in the form of Bill Brewster. There's been many memorable Soul Buggin' parties in recent years but one that has always stood out for us was when we invited Bill to come and play at our old venue Moog so we thought let's get him back for 2013 and let him loose on the bigger dancefloor that is The Bodega.

Since starting his DJ career in the late 80’s cutting his teeth playing in New York he’s played all over the globe and is one of the heads behind the superb Low Life parties in London. He has wrote music columns for almost every dance rag out there, penned bible-like books on the art of the DJ (‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’) and created hugely popular websites for the DJ community (www.djhistory.com) and that's just scratching the surface.

We'd recommend you don't miss this one :)

Residents on back up duties as usual will be Wrighty & Beane

Entry: £7

Limited early bird £5 advance tickets announced soon

Horse meat flavours

So after the madness of our 9th birthday party our marbles our just about put back in the correct draws so it's time to start looking forward towards our next party. On Saturday 26th October at The Bodega we welcome back to the decks Horse Meat Disco's Luke Howard.

Luke has played for us at Soul Buggin' twice before, although this will be his first time at The Bodega, and both times have been monumentous nights. If you've been before you know what to expect, if not well Horse Meat Disco have been doing thier thing in South London for 10 years and as well as their packed Sunday nights they can be found playing far and wide around the world from Mardi Gras in Sydney to Berlin, NYC to Tokyo.

They'll be a limited handful of early bird £5 tickets available (check the facebook event for updates HERE and once they've gone entry will be £7 on the door. We roll from 11pm till 4am and as per usual residents Wrighty and Beane will be on warm up duties getting things spicy

Birthday outer space shenanigans

Oh gawd me head. Now that was what I call a party. The excitement regarding our birthday party had been bubbling over these past few months ever since we announced Andrew Weatherall as our special guest and last Saturday loads of you came down to work the floorboards good and proper at The Bodega here in Nottingham. Arguably our busiest night to date we couldn't of asked for a better crowd so big up all of you that came down to join us in raising a glass. Massive thanks must also go out to Mr Weatherall who over the course of 3 hours took us all on one of his fine outer space dance floor journeys right up to lights on. Wow. While we try to gather our marbles and memories here's a few pics our roving lens Nick 'the photo' Clague snapped

Warming up for big birthday scenes...

Down at Soul Buggin' so far this year we've been blessed with some cracking sessions that have seen the likes of Maurice Fulton, Chris Duckenfield, Phil Asher, Joey Negro and Sam Redmore grace our decks. With great crowds, superb vibes and all round top notch music going down we still have to pinch ourselves that we're only in July. Those heads that reside in Nottingham will no doubt realise that now sun has beamed down it's lovely warm rays on us all this fine city quietens down for the summer as all the students bugger off back to mum and dads and us older folk go on holiday so we've decided to take a short break to recharge our batteries, refocus and start planning for the autumn and what a party we've got for you when we return.

Diaries at the ready, get the babysitters number quick, cancel everything. On Saturday 28th September we'll be returning to The Bodega in Nottingham to have a big old dance for our 9th birthday and to help us raise a glass we're very excited to announce that we've invited Andrew Weatherall to join us. To say that we're a little excited about this is a rather large understatement indeed so we hope that you can join us to celebrate. Normally on this blog we'd like to give you a run down of our guest djs history, discography, jaunts and warehouse adventures but with some people their legacy is so damn long we literally wouldn't know where to start. Andrew Weatherall is one such character. Whether it be in the form of a dj or producer he is one of the most well respected talents within the scene so it is with a great honour that he will be bestowing his sonic wonders onto our dancefloor.

The buzz on this one has been bubbling for a few weeks to the point that all the early bird cheap tickets we announced via our facebook page have now sold out before we even started to advertise this party. If you missed out on the first batch of tickets released then worry not, full price £10 tickets are now available to buy directly from The Bodega or The Music Exchange on Stoney Street and we strongly advise you purchase some.

As per usual the Soul Buggin' residents Wrighty, Beane and Mark A will be on warm up duties as we open the doors at 11pm and go through till 4am.

See you on the 28th

Buggin' in the sun

Well what do you know - it looks like summer's finally gone and turned up. We were getting a bit worried if truth be told but now the buggers arrived its time to get your alfresco face on. Here at Soul Buggin' towers we're planning on throwing an outdoor all day terrace party up at Rocket @ Saltwater. Kicking things off around 4pm we'll be pumping on through till around 2ish and we've invited down dirty old grizzlers Basement Boogaloo to bring the disco filth. It's a free session all day and children are welcome till 7pm so no excuse for the mums and dads who get loose.

The terrace at Saltwater is one of the nicest outdoor spots in the city. It's not just us who think so, those swanky guardian people think so too http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/aug/07/uk.bars

As for our monthly sessions at The Bodega, we'll be taking a short 2 month break for the summer but we'll be back all guns blazing in September.

Hold onto your livers - we got a residents throwdown incoming

So riding off the back of our massive spring line up we're getting back to basics in June and wrestling the decks back for a big ole residents special.
Last September was the first time we did a residents special to celebrate our 8th birthday and it turned out to be one of our favourite parties of 2012 which is saying something considering the calibre of guests we had come down so expect loads of Buggin' anthems, classic and current, with lashings of brand new gear all pumped out over a big system.

Doors 11pm-4am

Entry £5

Far... far beyond

Oh my giddy aunt what a night. Last Saturday saw our decks blessed with the one man party machine that was Joey Negro and when it comes to electric nights this one has to have been up there with some of our best. A fantastic crowd came out in force to The Bodega and proceeded to hammer the life out of those floorboards as Joey Negro slammed down a killer 3 hour set of old school boogie joints, classic disco, proper house and all manner of soul-flavoured dancefloor nuggets from yesteryear. A heaving dancefloor all night ensued with people still wanting more come lights on time at 4am. We left with big beaming smiles on our faces and a warm fuzzing feeling inside. Huge thanks for all those that came to last weeks party and made it such a memorable night and of course to our special guest Dave Lee aka Joey Negro. Here's a few pics from the night courtesy of our roving eye Nick 'The Photo' Clague.
