To the cosmic forest and beyond!

Our August Bank Holiday Sunday parties are some of our favourite sessions of the year and for this August we are very happy to announce that we've invited those cosmic forest dwellers Psychemagik!

Over the past few years Psychemagik have been building a steady reputation for sprinkling their magic dust over artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Joyce, The Time And Space Machine, Azari & III and Metronomy, The Yardbirds, Talking Heads and, erm, even a Ronnie Corbert 80's sitcom to name but a few. Their sun soaked
re-interpretations and remixes have found favour with DJs as far reaching as Greg Wilson, Todd Terje, Faze Action, Rob da Bank, Tom Middleton and Annie Nightingale.

With a slew of releases under their belts for labels such as uber chic History Clock, House of Disco Records, Paper Recordings and their own 'Discotheque Wreckers' imprint, the prolific output of the cosmic forest studio is truly extraordinary.

Hot on the heels of their recently released "Healin' Feelin' reworks it's time to bask in some Psychemagik warmth and we're very happy to welcome the duo to the hallowed Soul Buggin' turntables.

DJ support comes from residents Wrighty & Beane.

Doors 10pm-4am

PLEASE NOTE: Limited early bird tickets are £5 and available HERE

After this entrance will be £7 on the door.

Summer Boogie

So with the UK pretty much trying to recreate scenes from Noah's Ark this summer we're not letting the doom and gloom of grey old blighty get us down as we power on into July and welcome Cosmic Boogie to our little monthly get down at The Bodega Social Club. Be sure to grab your multi-colour cosmic pencil and block out Saturday 28th July for some serious foot movement.

Cosmic Boogie is the pseudonym of Liverpool based DJ and producer Stu Robinson, and the name of one of the record labels he currently runs (the other being Boogie Originals with Andy Ash). He has released and remixed for Disco Deviance, Bedmo Disco, Whiskey Disco, Deep Space Orchestra, Frank Booker and Tal M Klein (amongst others). A string of further releases and remixes are lined up for 2012.

On the back of the success of his productions, record labels and remixes, Cosmic Boogie has become an in-demand DJ, with regular dates across the UK and Europe. Over the past 12 months he has played headline slots everywhere from Helsinki and Warsaw to London and Budapest – as well as his home town of Liverpool.

This is one of the last few times he will be DJing as Cosmic Boogie as he is returning to his real name as he is making music under other names including Little Creatrures. To help with this new start he will be bringing a lot of Cosmic Boogie giveaways with him

Also joining us is local Nottingham DJ Elmo. Elmo is a Soul Buggin' regular and connoisseur of good music as well as being an excellent selector.

We run from 10pm - 4am for this one and entrance is £5

Support comes from resident Wrighty as he returns to the UK fresh from flying the Soul Buggin' flag over at Croatia's "Electric Elephant" festival.

There may be Trouble ahead...

Well that Ashley Beedle session was just a bit good wasn’t it? Anyway in the tradition of Soul Buggin’ we’re now looking forward to our next party on Saturday 30th June at The Bodega Social Club where we'll be bringing you The Legendary Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson and we're just a little bit excited about this one.

So here's a little bit of the 'Trouble' story. Get a brew ready.

Paul started off DJing in the early Sound System days, and was also a soundman, who followed the Chicken, Scrap Iron and Fat Man Around systems around and Paul’s uncle ran a reggae sound that converted into a soul sound, called Troublefunk and this is where he acquired his stage name ‘Trouble’.

At this time he meet DJ pioneer and one of the founders of Kiss FM radio, George Power, who asked Paul to play alongside him at the legendary jazz funk sessions at Crackers. Paul was the first black DJ to play in Soho in 1979 and he then went onto blaze a trail in the London music scene, developing highly acclaimed seminal sessions of early electro, boogie, jazz dance, hip hop, soul and any new dance sound at what became historic clubs such as Crackers, Spats, The Embassy, Global Village and the Electric Ballroom. He played the best tunes during the rise of each genre: Reggae, Soul, Funk, Jazz-Funk, Disco, Electro, Hip-Hop and then House.

During the late 1980s Acid House era, Paul was head-lining at the massive Sunrise, Biology and Back to the Future raves, and was also resident at Love at the Wag, Solaris and Enter The Dragon at the Park. Paul was the first UK DJ to play in Italy, and was the regular resident at Angels of Love (Napoli, Italy)

Paul was one of the founders of Kiss FM, London’s first legal dance music station, and during this time he launched and nurtured amazing residencies at legendary clubs such as Trouble’s House (Legends) and The Loft (HQs, Camden Town - London’s best mid-week club which ran for 10 years with special appearances from DJs Tony Humphries, Louie Vega, Kerri Chandler, CJ Mackintosh, Marshall Jefferson, and singers Jocelyn Brown, Adeva, Loleatta Holloway (RIP), Joi Cardwell, Jean Carne, Crystal Waters, Kenny Bobien, Gerideau, Arnold Jarvis and Leroy Burgess.

Paul’s musical achievements include compiling Classic House Mastercuts 2, remixing Nomad’s No 1 hit, ’Devotion’ and Junior Reid’s No 1 in Jamaica, ’One Blood’ as well as remixes for Blaze, Pet Shop Boys, Soul II Soul, Thelma Houston, and Byron Stingily, and a Live Mix “Trouble’s House” album on R2 Records

"He is without doubt one of the Best DJ’s in the world’’ Norman Jay

"Throughout his career Paul has always been about busting out high quality tunes and didn’t need other people to tell him something was good or had a buzz on it to get behind it - he was definitely a leader". Joey Negro

"I used to play upstairs at the Electric Ballroom and I would sneak out whilst playing a long jazz record and go and listen to Paul playing early electro tunes. He is one of the most important people in London club culture, and Soul II Soul and all that stuff came off the back of Paul Anderson and lets not forget that. He’s an original boogie man, playing material that’s very dirty, very bouncy - real shuffle, and the girls love it and boys feel good around it." Gilles Peterson

Musical back up supplied as usual from the Buggin' residents Wrighty, Beane and Mark A.

£5 entry all night

.

 Doors open at 11pm.

Black Science incoming...

It was way back in February last year when invited the legend that is Ashley Beedle to our Soul Buggin' party and we had such a monster session we thought we just had to get him back again to lay down some of that black science magic at our new home The Bodega Social Club.

Ashley Beedle is one of the UK’s most prolific DJ/ Producers with an enormous body of work under various guises and production monikers. He has remixed and produced an astonishing number of major artists including Elton John, Bob Marley, Horace Andy, The Rolling Stones, The Streets, Mick Jagger, India, Masters At Work, Mika, Sade, Bent, Jamiroquai, Candi Staton, Lily Allen, James Blunt, Gabriella Cilmi, Femi Kuti, Blaze, Armand Van Helden, The 2 Bears and that's just off the top of our heads!

DJs from all over the globe ranging from Greg Wilson, Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope, Francios K, Ross Allen, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Laurent Garnier, The Unabombers and Andrew Weatherall all champion his extensive back catalogue of remixes and edits and music collectors with any clout have at least one of his records in their collections.

This promises to be a special session indeed so get Saturday 26th May stuck firm in your diary

Doors open at the slightly later time of 11pm and it's a fiver in all night.

Musical back up as usual comes from the Buggin' hairy layabouts Wrighty, Beane and Mark A

The return of the P!

Hot, sweaty, crazy scenes at our last party with Crazy P last month and with a big crowd in the place it was great to finally welcome Crazy P to our humble little disco shindig. Many thanks to Jim, Chris and Danielle for coming down to play and as always all you crazy loons that come to boogie. Here are a few pics for those mentalists that missed it.

Get some some disco back up yer jumpers

After a long 4 months Soul Buggin' returned with a vengeance last Sunday as we opened up our account at the Bodega Social Club here in Nottingham with a right old Easter knees up. It had seemed like an absolute ice age since our last New Years Eve party when we waved goodbye to Moog, got all tearful and packed up our bags littlest hobo stylee and hit the road. So come Sunday we were right pumped up for our party with Faze Action and Leftside Wobble and what a fun night we had. Massive shouts to all those that came down, rubbed us up funny, got on the good foot and generally let loose. Here's a few pics that have surfaced from our favourite sex photography Nick Clague.

So as mentioned a few months back our plan at The Bodega Social Club is to put on parties on the last Saturday of the month, just like we used to at Moog, so we don't want you to lose the plot but we've got another little session up our sleeve for Saturday 28th April where we'll be starting our monthly residency good and proper with a right line up. What better way to lay down our gauntlet we thought than to welcome Nottingham's very fine Crazy P Soundsystem to join us for a bit of the old good good.

Due to their rising success that has been like a tidal wave these past few years Crazy P have been playing all over the world so we're super excited to have them join us at Soul Buggin' which feels like a well overdue appearance. Regular readers and disco fiends won't need any back story from me on this blog but for those who have been living in a cave these last 15 years or so have a wander round their website here. Expect a DJ set mixed in with keyboards, a sampler and live vocals. Definitely one not to be missed!

Doors open at the slightly later time of 11pm for this one but we'll be partying on till 4am to make up for it. Oh and it's only a fiver on the door too. Aceness all round.
