Far... far beyond

Oh my giddy aunt what a night. Last Saturday saw our decks blessed with the one man party machine that was Joey Negro and when it comes to electric nights this one has to have been up there with some of our best. A fantastic crowd came out in force to The Bodega and proceeded to hammer the life out of those floorboards as Joey Negro slammed down a killer 3 hour set of old school boogie joints, classic disco, proper house and all manner of soul-flavoured dancefloor nuggets from yesteryear. A heaving dancefloor all night ensued with people still wanting more come lights on time at 4am. We left with big beaming smiles on our faces and a warm fuzzing feeling inside. Huge thanks for all those that came to last weeks party and made it such a memorable night and of course to our special guest Dave Lee aka Joey Negro. So where do you start with Joey Negro aka Dave Lee aka a trillion other aliases? We're not even going to attempt it on this blog as his discography is huge but we urge you to check out his fine back catalogue of productions, remix work and fine compilations as a starting point.

Fulton Fire

Was great to finally welcome Maurice Fulton over to Soul Buggin' last week. We've been big fans of his music for many years now so it was a true to honour have him grace our decks. What was supposed to be a 2 hour set turned into a monster 3.5 hour boogie-thon of killer grooves, classics and special Fulton productions. Many thanks to all those that came down and got on the good foot

We're sitting here still basking in the glow of another excellent Soul Buggin' night where Chris Duckenfield showed again why he is one of our favourite DJs. So what do we have to match up to that, well we've only gone and booked the rather bloomin' excellent Maurice Fulton.

Having been looking at booking him for ages we're rather delighted to be bringing him as part of our big spring line up. There is already a buzz about this one and we are selling advance tickets for this, so make sure you pick one up to avoid any disappointment.

Maverick production genius Maurice Fulton is a man of few words, who is more inclined to let his music do the talking. We know for certain that he comes from Baltimore in the USA and has been DJing since his early teens. Starting on Hip-hop and then moving on to House and Garage at various residencies across the US he played under his nickname Dr Scratch.

Maurice began playing organ in church and drums in high school. So when he put his talent to making music it wasn’t long before he was using his skills to produce tracks with The Basement Boys and Ultra Nate. His most famous work was heard on Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters, one of the most successful house tunes of the early ‘90s.

Maurice went on to become highly prolific in his production work releasing tracks on various labels through the 90’s including Nuphonic and Warp in the UK. Often linked to contemporaries like Carl Craig, Derrick May and Frankie Knuckles, his textured sounds and complexity of production astounded many and grew him a loyal fan base. Some called it weird house others arty disco, his left of centre productions was always on the money.

In his more recent years he has been working for Tirk, Kathy Diamond, DFA and Running Back. Maurice likes to be known first and foremost as a producer, though for those in the know Maurice is also an extremely accomplished DJ. His sets are firmly routed in Loft and Garage classics that gave New York City its clubbing heritage. These tracks are often quietly edited to perfection by his own hand, and presented and eq’ed to maximum effect on the floor.

Maurice Fulton is one of house music’s true originals and his enviable back catalogue will live long in a modern world of disposable downloads.

So have you recovered from the Phil Asher night, if not don't worry as there's a month until the next Buggin' and we're sure you're gonna need that rest as we've only gone and invited back one of the finest purveyors of quality dance music, Mr Chris Duckenfield.

With over two decades of djing safely tucked under his belt that have seen him take in the underground warehouse parties of the late eighties, classic clubs like Panorama Bar in Berlin, The Sub Club in Glasgow and The Electric Chair in Manchester as well as thundering cathedrals of rave in the form of London’s Fabric and Electric Elephant festival in Croatia, Chris Duckenfield has done it all. He was one half of the mighty Swag outfit, ran record labels Odori, Primitive and the more recent filthy disco imprint Popular Peoples Front and that’s not even mentioning the ‘ssssssh’ records he puts out.

This is one that you definitely do not want to miss.

Plasher the Masher

So last Saturday the man with the Restless Soul known to us mere mortals as Phil Asher bowled up to Nottingham and graced the decks of our little monthly shindig and did what he does best - namely mash the the living daylights out of our dancefloor. With a top crowd in attendance getting their wobble right on February's party proved to be a proper giggle. Big ups to all those that came down. Phlash ATTACK

Well we told you we weren't gonna mess about in 2013 and hot on the heels of a rather fantastic night with Sam Redmore we bring back one of the best received guests we had at Moog, Phil Asher.

Undoubtedly one of the UK’s most prolific dj/producers Phil has been indispensable to the progressive musical landscape over the past 15 years. Having completed well in excess of 200 of his own productions, as well as innumerable remixes, from his first gig at Legends and London’s first House club Delirium in 1991 (slipping on a record when Noel Watson went to the toilet) to more recent gigs at, Inspiration Information, and Soul Heaven at Ministry of Sound in London, Phil has played the length and breadth of the UK, as well as, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, France, Brazil, Japan, Canada, United States, New-Zealand and Australia.

Along with Luke McCarthy, Phil is the founding member of the restless soul Production Team, which also incorporates producers Dominic Jacobson, Taxi Driver, Aaron Ross and Felix Hopkins and Latest recruits Jose Carretas, Bopstar & Craig Whitfield (HHA). He also produces under various aliases and he is also recognised as being one of the pioneering forces in the West London (Broken beat) movement. Phil has been an instrumental part to the scene, from being a founding member of the CO-OP club alongside Dego, I.G.Culture and Demus, Afronaut & G-Force, to representing and promoting the West London sound worldwide. He is one of those hardworking soul soldiers trying to unite the love for soulful music, breaking down musical frontiers and releasing an eclectic output of quality music.
